Capstone Mentees - Learning Objectives:

  • To research and develop a cohesive concept and body of artwork for senior capstone exhibition.

  • To produce and install the works according to professionalism guidelines with the gallery space.

  • To develop skills necessary for applications to juried exhibits and graduate programs.

Design and Production - Learning Objectives:

  • To research a consumer base and design a product for an established business

  • To develop skills necessary for clay prototyping, plaster mold making, and slip-casting

  • To produce a series of commercially saleable objects in repetition for a retail environment

Beginning Animal Sculpture - Learning Objectives:

  • To establish a plan to create a three-dimensional representation from a series of two-dimensional references.

  • To introduce hand-building techniques and skills in development of organic forms.

  • To explore the variety of available surface textures with ceramic materials.

Historic Pot - Learning Objectives:

  • To develop hand-building techniques and skills including coil building, pinching, and slab construction.

  • To begin understanding the relationship between three dimensional form and two dimensional surface design.

  • To problem solve by reinterpreting a historic reference and a contemporary reference.

Wheel Throwing - Learning    Objectives:   

• To    develop    skills    on    the    potter’s    wheel    necessary    for    creating    vessel    forms,    beginning    with    learning    basic    throwing    techniques    and    advancing    through    the    production    of    multiples    
• To    demonstrate    an   understanding    of    the    relationship    between    vessel    forms    and    specific    functions
• To    demonstrate    a    better    understanding    of    the    elements    and    principles    of    design    
• To    apply    individual    research    during    the    design    process    to    assist    with    problem    solving   

Life-casting & Small Sculpture Learning Objectives:

  • To learn the properties and purposes of plaster in the ceramic process by creating a press mold to replicate the body.

  • To use a found object from one’s personal life as a source of inspiration for a portrait.

  • To develop modeling skills in the mimicry of an item for basic sculpture techniques.

  • To gain an understanding of joining multiple pieces together and creating a narrative through thoughtful presentation.

Self-Portraits in Masks - Learning Objectives:

  • To learn the properties and purposes of armatures for creating sculptural forms.

  • To learn the proportions of and properly map out the human face for anatomical rendering.

  • To use a personal insight as a source of inspiration for a self portrait.

  • To expand finishing techniques for ceramic surface design to include paint and mixed media.

  • To gain an understanding of historical and cultural mask making

  • To demonstrate an ability to speak about one's methods and choices for final presentations.

Abstract Teapot - Learning Objectives:

  • To combine building techniques from slab construction, coil building, and throwing to create an original sculptural teapot.

  • To use a found object from nature as a source of inspiration for an abstract design of a teapot form.

  • To research the functionality of sculptural teapots and contemporary artists as examples to aid in the individual interpretation and design process.

  • To gain a better understanding of joining multiple pieces together and to construct working parts that clearly belong together.
